Elements of this site were updated 1st March 2010 News Updates and Work in Progress ![]() NO THIS IS NOT A PHOTOGRAPH! It is in fact the latest stunning painting by Artist John Twinning, in his photorealistic style. John has very recently completed his latest commission of the beautiful golden retriever, Molly. Prints of 'Molly's Portrait' are available immediately from the Gallery area of the site. Click the link to take you straight there. A Work in Progress page has been added which looks at my current and most recent commissions including how I went about painting the above animal portrait. There's also more information about the picture below which is my current commission. Holywell Church, my current commission which is still in progress. I am now quite well advanced with this new and exciting commission and the painting, as it currently stands, is show (above left). This picture shows some of the original pencil sketch still apparent. There is quite a lot of work remaining to be done, but I am aiming to have this piece finished in a couple of months. ![]() John's painting 'Low Tide' was selected for exhibition and sold at the preview of the prestigious 2008 Royal Watercolour Society & Sunday Times Watercolour Competition. The Royal Watercolour Society (new co-sponsor of the competition), represents the finest watercolour painting in Britain. As you can see from the image opposite, John's painting & drawing style verges on the photo-realistic and many hours of painstaking and meticulous work (often using very fine brushes) go into every one of his pieces of work. His chosen medium for most work is the water-based paint, gouache. Pencil drawings also feature strongly. Visit the Gallery to view a range of beautiful images. The Bridge & Chapel, St. Ives (Cambridgeshire) - Pencil Drawing ![]() Original - pencil on paper © John Twinning 2005 & 2010 This is Cambridgeshire's St. Ives, not the the other St. Ives which has become perhaps more prominent due to the media attention lavished on its artistic community....oh and not to mention ...... the "beautiful quality of the light". Well for my money, this St. Ives has equal merit and may very well boast just as many artists. As for its light....well it's certainly a light which is just as impressive in my book; which is why I've painted quite a few pictures of this beautiful and picturesque Cambridgeshire town over the years. St. Ives sits approximately 10 miles north West of Cambridge, just off the A14. I lived near to St. Ives for about six months or so in 1989 in a village called Elsworth (more of which elsewhere on this site). I am led to believe that this spectacular bridge was damaged during the English civil war which meant that one of the arches had to be rebuilt. The River Great Ouse flows inexorably along with the parish church nestling in the background. More pictures of St. Ives to follow at a later date. I still exhibit work at the L'Bidi Studio gallery at nearby Abbots Ripton which has been supporting my artistic endeavours for over 20 years. Did you know that St. Ives is part of the Town Twinning initiative, being twinned with Stadtallendorf in Germany. Browse more images: Churches & Cathedrals | Topographical Studies ![]() |
