A Favourite Gallery of the Midlands - supplying fine works across the U.K. Established in 1983 and now one of the best known Fine Art Dealers in Central England. The Gallery occupies the whole of 'The Smithy,' a grade II listed building of deceptive size, adjacent to Royal Sutton Coldfield town centre. This is one of the Bishop Vesey buildings dating from the 14th and 15th centuries which are an important part of Sutton's heritage. Despite being on the busy Birmingham road, it remains an oasis of tranquility and conveniently has it's own visitors' car park on the premises.

Proprietor, David Gilbert, believes the success of the business is due to the wide range of subjects, styles and prices, with Victorian, Impressionist and Modern artists being represented. All pictures are firmly vetted to good London and universal standards, promising lasting pleasure and investment potential in a satisfying combination.

The ICC Shop, Birmingham
Some of the text below is sourced from The ICC website and is paraphrased here with grateful thanks.

Brindley Place entrance to The ICC This is The Brindley Place entrance to The ICC. The ICC Centre shop is situated at the Centenary Square end of the convention centre - next to the business centre and opposite the renowned Symphony Hall. The shop has a wide range of useful items available for sale such as newspapers, magazines and stamps. A range of small gifts, greetings cards and confectionery also feature prominently in this compact and extremely attractive shop. For conference delegates and visitors alike it is an ideal stop-off and when time is of the essence, it does away with having to walk into the city centre for many of those vital must-have items.

The ICC and Symphony Hall sit opposite the Birmingham Repertory Theatre in Centenary Square. The site which now houses the ICC was originally the old Bingley Hall, which as I can recall from personal memories was a completely different kind of exhibition and conference experience.

The ICC opened in 1991 and now hosts more than 400 conferences and related meetings every year. It is one of the UK's leading conference centres and has earned a deserved reputation for quality and excellence.

The ICC Shop can be found in the Birmingham International Convention Centre which is off Centenary Square, Broad Street, Birmingham, B1 2EA. You can also visit the ICC website at www.theicc.co.uk

L'Bidi Gallery and Framing Studio

L'Bidi

L'Bidi's gallery and framing workshop are now at The Forge, Grove Farm, Abbots Ripton.

L'Bidi Gallery and Framing Studio moved in early 2009 from its base of nearly 25 years at the Broadway, St. Ives to a new home in the picturesque Cambridgeshire village of Abbots Ripton a few miles north of Huntingdon. Whilst the premises are a little smaller, there is still the same ambiance about the place and the unique mixture of local scenes, watercolours, 3D items inlcuding individual ceramic items, turned wood, jewellery etc are all still very evident.

L'Bidi is also continuing with the bespoke framing service which has been built up over a almost a quarter of a century at old the St. Ives shop. This aspect of the business continues to expand and attract new customers as well as keeping a loyal clientele who have followed this very individual and stylish art studio out of the town centre at St. Ives to it's new home. I for one anticipate being a frequent visitor and hope to supply original paintings and print of Abbots Ripton later this year. Abbots Ripton is a beautiful and unspoilt English village with a wonderful charm and character and L'Bidi Studio's fabulous range of art and gift ideas will make a substantial additional contribution to further enhancing this charming place.

L'Bidi Studio is to be found in idyllic seclusion at The Forge, Grove Farm, Abbots Ripton, Cambridgeshire, PE28 2PE. Visit the L'Bidi website. Look out for the sign on the end of the building.

The Place

Text below is sourced in part from The Place's publicity flyer and reproduced here with thanks.

This shop is like "Aladdin's cave" I heard one customer remark when I was dropping some prints off recently. They are not far wrong as you will see from the picture below left. This shows just a very small area of the shop which is quite literally crammed to the rafters with a multitude of fantastic gift ideas.

The Place

The owner, Paula Smith says "The Place is an eclectic mix of gifts, textiles and ornaments that we take great care to source. We pride ourselves on seeking out as many original and truly 'handmade' items (particularly local artists work) as possible."

The bright red tiles of this little farmhouse contrasting with its cream coloured walls caught my eye as I was driving along the A14 - which was at that time under construction. I knew I had to paint this scene. Given the level of traffic which now graces this stretch of the Midland to East Anglian coast superhighway, I'm glad I stopped when I did. I would probably have never gotten out of the lay-by if I had stopped to study the same scene today. In the picture, it's a bright, but hazy summer's day and the rapeseed crop is glowing with brilliant effervescence in the distance. The house owner's jeans are drying on the clothes line in front of the shed and the tower of a remote parish church pops up almost unseen on the horizon next to a row of tall trees which have the appearance of poplars …and the living is easy!
